DARTMOUTH MAYFLOWER

THE MAYFLOWER APP An example of how the national project sup- ports Dartmouth Mayflower 400 is the new Mayflower Self-Guided Tour App https://www.mayflower400uk.org/app This is an App funded by the National

Project but with the content for Dartmouth provided by Lindsay Ellwood and her team from Dartmouth Mayflower 400. This content relates to just one guided trail of the three being launched by our local team over the next 18 months. To support the Trail launch we are training

a group of people to become town guides for our Mayflower story working with Dartmouth Visitor Centre for visitors to the town and also to work with our cruise and tourpartners. This team will also have Welcome Host Gold training, a recognised and certified Tourism Customer Care program. Alongside this we are working with our

partners at Mayflower Makers to run a series of Mayflower Ambassador training sessions to understand the full story and find out what’s happening in our area as part of the commemorations. These will be available to local businesses and anyone who would be interested in supporting our activities as a volunteer.

PLEASE SEE THE DARTMOUTH MAYFLOWER 400 WEBSITE (WWW.DARTMOUTHMAYFLOWER400.UK) FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Dartmouth is one of 11 Compact towns from the UK engaged in the Mayflower 400 project along with Leiden, Holland and Plymouth, US. For the full story visit our website www. dartmouthmayflower400.uk

Dartmouth Mayflower 400 The National Mayflower 400 project works with the local Compact towns to bring the activities and events being planned at a local level to the attention of National and International Partners.

Working with media groups such as the BBC and NBC as well as National Press, the stories shared will ena- ble Dartmouth to build on its Maritime Heritage profile and connect further with those who want to get to the heart and soul of Dartmouth. With over 30 million US descendants of the Mayflower Passengers keen to trace their Pilgrim Roots we keep the experience personal and authentic.

CRUISE & TRAVEL TRADE EXPOSURE One of the other key engagements supported by the National Project is attendance at Travel Trade events to promote what Dartmouth has to offer along with other Mayflower towns. This has included - September 2018: Sea Trade Med ( Lisbon) and April 2019: Sea Trade Global ( Miami) where Laura Campbell (Dartmouth Mayflower 400 Destination Marketing and project manager for South Coast Cruise) attended to promote the Mayflower Ports including Dartmouth to the cruise industry. And - November 2018: The World Travel Market (Excel, London) to promote Dartmouth and Mayflower towns to the travel trade as options to include when arranging Tours for visitors. There are more of these travel trade opportunities coming up over the next 18 months for both cruise and tour so let us take your Mayflower experience to the trade! We have hosted press trips and familiarisation trips for the travel trade

Brixham trawler, Pilgrim

through this project and we are now delighted to see Dartmouth appearing in tour itineraries and the travel press. For more details visit www.dartmouthmay- flower400.uk/tourism

Tourism Products: Mayflower Experience If you have an idea for an experience with a Mayflower theme such as the Dart Marina Mayflower Experience then get in touch and we’ll support you putting that idea together and take it to the travel trade for you. Laura also leads a project working to develop opportunities for local businesses

to engage with the cruise industry and travel trade to create a bookable product for Dartmouth and the surrounding areas. Having completed the first workshop last year for some local businesses as part of the national project, this has now evolved into more of a one to one travel trade training element aligned with a format devel- oped with Visit Britain. The products that evolve from these activities will be promoted nationally and

internationally through online media channels and at the Trade Conferences. We will also be holding a Cruise Business Seminar in the Autumn to engage local businesses with the cruise industry.

Mayflower Meal deal For another opportunity, how about our Mayflower Meal Deal for £20.20? If you have a food outlet in any format, put together a meal deal with a price of £20.20 and we will include it in our marketing. It could be dinner for one / two £20.20 or a Family Mayflower food bag with cakes and pies for £20.20. Our initial run of this will be over Thanksgiving; Thursday November 28th through Dartmouth Candlelit weekend until Sunday 1st December. Along with all the events our project leads are creating locally we have a range of activities with our destination marketing lead to enhance our local tourism product.
