World-Wide Knitting No, this is not about a sweater big enough to girdle the world but an event which was held at The Flavel in the cafe on Saturday June 8th. It was known as World-Wide Knit in Public Day. Rose Williams and Jan Trevorrow organised the knits and the Flavel café kept the tea, coffee and drinks appearing during the course of a very suc- cessful morning. This was the third of these very enjoyable, good fun events which help to raise money for charities. This year’s event supported Cancer Research.
Flavel Exhibition During the week of July 8th to 14th the exhibition of paintings is to be a two woman show; the artists being Judy Dewhirst from Ipplepen and our own Jan Trevorrow from Kingswear. So if you venture over the waters at that time do pop in to The Flavel and have a look at their work. They have two very distinct and different styles of painting. Oh, and take your cheque cards in case you are moved to buy!
Creek Moorings
Available I am glad to be able to let you know that there are a few Waterhead Creek moorings available for rent. These can accommodate boats up to 25 feet in length, but it should be pointed out that water is limited to about four hours per tide. If you are interested in a mooring please contact Sue Balsdon, Parish Clerk on 07863 227031 or email Kingswear
parishclerk2017@outlook.com The cost of the moorings is as little as £127 pa.
Council News Two things to report from Kingswear Parish Council: one, that the two councillor vacancies have been taken up by Jasmine Hacking (for Kingswear) and Steve Smith (for Hillhead) so the council is now back up to strength. The
other, that from July onwards, council meetings will all take place in the lower hall at 7:00pm on the second Wednesday of the month. Please note the big change from many previous decades. Using the lower hall will enable councillors to access the internet so that the planning meetings can go paperless, and be much better for access of the disabled.
SO ... you
have been warned - if you toil up Church Hill to an empty Trust Room don’t blame me!
Citizen Geoff This year’s Kingswear Award has been presented to Geoff Merrell, our stalwart taxi-driver, for his kindness and thoughtfulness to the village in general but especially to the elderly who rely on him so much for his valuable and cheerful services. Congratulations Geoff - and make sure you keep the silver salver polished. Once a week should do it.

Fun Day A reminder that this year’s Fun Day will be on Sunday September 8th at 12 noon until 4pm. It will be a guaranteed cracker of a day with the usual jollities like tug-o-war, bake-off cake competition, rowing taster sessions, dog show fancy dress, the Great Eggathon, the classic and vintage cars, stalls and
lots of street food. In addition this year there will be Lez the Fez with magic tricks and balloon-model- ling, games and craft activities, an orienteering trail, mystery parcels, a model boat display on the water, a re-cycling challenge and the making of miniature gardens in a scallop shell (shells provided). SO .... if you miss it, you miss a real treat. Everyone from all around is welcome, just bring your money and your giggle-glands. There will also be music, music, music from DJ Somer and from our very own ‘Missin’ Tackle.’ Obviously such a complex event takes a mass of organisation so if you would like to help organise or just help on the day for an hour or so please get in touch with Jan Trevorrow on 01803 752928 email

Hall Open Evening Back on April 26th the village hall committee very kindly held a Wel- come Evening for the village to see and celebrate all the work which has been done in the hall. A num- ber of clubs and societies showed their activities around the hall and a good time was had by all with nibbles and drinks galore. There was a very good turn-out on the night, so thanks to the hall com- mittee for their efforts, they were much appreciated, as of course, is the new revamped village hall.
