BLACKSTONE BAR & GRILL

Rino Dervishi opened Blackstone Bar & Grill in 2005 at 600 East Veterans Pwky. “It’s unbelievable. It’s been 14 years. When we came, it was a small community,” Rino remembers. “We went through the worst recession of our generation, and we are still here. We really have to thank the people of Yorkville and Kendall County for the support they gave us. Teir loyalty, it makes it special for me to be here.” Rino also credits his staff for his restaurant’s successs. “I have been so fortunate to have the people I have,” he says. “Over 80% are still the same people here since we opened.” He said he thinks what the patrons appreciate the most is the consistency of the meals served at Blackstone. “Tey know what they are going to get here,”

he said. “Te variety appeals to a lot of people. On the weekends we sell a lot of steaks, seafood and pasta. It’s what we sell most. On the week nights it’s salads, sandwiches and burgers. “Our kids menu also has a lot of choices. Te

favorite is chicken fingers, but we have chicken parmagiana and quesadillas. It’s a nice variety.” An Albanian born in Yugoslavia, Rino says he has been working in the food industry since he was 16 years old. “A lot of rich people, like sports figures and others who have a lot of money, sometimes decide to open a restaurant.

But you have to know what you are doing. You have to understand the business. You have to be creative and make sure people are happy. I enjoy working with people. I enjoy food. “Every day I wake up and I still look forward to going to work. Even after 40 years, I enjoy what I do.” Blackstone Bar & Grill is open Sunday through Tursday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m. For more information and to see the weekday specials, go to blackstonebarandgrill.com.
