DIGITAL GROWTH

Chamber members benefit from Digital Growth support

The recent 2019 D2N2 Digital Conference hailed the impact of the Digital Growth Programme across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. The programme has helped more than 1,300 local businesses to access

expert advice, support and funding to enhance their digital capabilities. Here, two Chamber members which have benefited from its support share their stories.

Matthew Hayes Sonia Harvey

NEW DIGITAL HUB TO CHAMPION CLIENTS’ SUCCESSES Champions is an award-winning full-service brand, marketing and communications agency, providing a raft of digital, creative and publishing services, along with events and celebrity talent management. The family-run business has developed long-standing and successful

relationships with some of the UK’s biggest brands and leading SMEs. It approached the programme for help in equipping its staff with

key digital skills in SEO, website development and social media advertising. It also wanted to access financial support and advice to help bring a number of digital projects to fruition, including upgrades to IT infrastructure, systems and software to enable better remote working, client monitoring and reporting, and enhancing its provision of digital, creative and video services. The Digital Growth Programme provided 72.5 hours of workshop

support across a host of subject areas. It also provided £56,000 of grant funding toward the purchase of new hardware and software, including the creation of a new £150,000 Digital Hub, in Rushcliffe, which will enable Champions to provide an in-house video production service. Establishing the new Digital Hub will lead to the creation of nine new jobs plus an apprenticeship. Matthew Hayes, Champions’ Managing Director, said: “As a fast-

growing communications business with a growing emphasis on digital, it’s crucial that we keep up with technology to continue providing value to our clients. The Digital Growth Programme has enabled us to equip staff with the latest digital skills, while the financial support has been fundamental in enabling us to futureproof the business, increase our capacity and further enhance our creative offering.”

A CLEEN SWEEP FOR HSG One of the Derbyshire businesses to benefit from funding support from the programme was HSG, a specialist provider of washroom hygiene and water conservation solutions. It offers a unique portfolio of industry-leading products, coupled

with unparalleled end-to-end delivery and installation, to provide businesses with a complete solution for washroom hygiene. HSG founder Simon Rice spotted an opportunity for venues such as

restaurants and sports stadiums to really enhance their customer experience by offering users the opportunity to ‘rate their washroom’ and report any issues so they could be addressed swiftly and efficiently. It wanted to introduce a Trip Advisor-type review system, specifically for washrooms, allowing customers to provide feedback directly to the venue operator. The programme provided £22,000 of funding toward the

development of a bespoke app and dashboard, called Cleen, which gives venues better control over their washroom management. The app has received thousands of downloads since launch and of

the six venues which are using the dashboard, all have been able to improve their customer review scores by quickly acting on the feedback received via the dashboard. The company is currently in discussion with several new venues about installing the Cleen system. Sonia Harvey, Brand Manager, said: “The Cleen app and dashboard

give business owners the opportunity to monitor the performance of their washrooms to enhance their overall experience, by acting on instant feedback. The product is tailor-made for sports venues, restaurants and NHS Trusts and since launch, we have opened up a host of avenues for this fast-growing area of the business.”
