A CGI street view of the Trent Basin development
Trent Basin earns design accolade
Trent Basin continues to lead the way in architecture and innovation, after being shortlisted for another prestigious national award. The development, which
forms part of the ground- breaking regeneration of Nottingham’s Waterside, on the River Trent, has been acknowledged for its high- quality design approach by being shortlisted in the Housing Design Awards 2019. The awards, now in their 71st
year, are the longest running awards programme in the country, dedicated to promoting excellence and sustainability in home design and championing developments which offer innovative solutions to today’s housing design challenges. Recognising the
collaborative work between Trent Basin’s multi-award- winning developers Blueprint and Sarah Wigglesworth Architects, the development has been listed under the Project category, which highlights schemes that have planning permission but have not yet been completed. Samantha Veal, Chief
Executive of Blueprint, said: “At Blueprint, we are proud to see the innovative design of Trent Basin recognised in these prestigious awards. Our ethos from the start of the scheme was to create a strong sense of community, where residents could enjoy unrivalled views of the river and an instant oasis of calm; whether they are walking along the river paths or enjoying the sunshine from their own roof terrace. We have strived to implement this vision throughout in every aspect of the design. “We’re delighted to be
shortlisted for this award which is testament to the quality of the project, turning a long derelict industrial site into a well-designed, and sustainable neighbourhood that puts people first.”

UK first as trentbarton leads with contactless
The East Midlands bus company trentbarton and its sister operator Kinchbus are rolling out the UK’s first truly tap-on tap-off contactless payment for a region’s bus travel. The companies are investing
£2.5m in around 350 tap-on, tap- off terminals for their combined fleets after trialling the system from pioneering UK provider Ticketer on the skylink Derby route’s 11 vehicles. During the two-month trial, one-
in-five customers opted to pay with their contactless debit or credit cards. Customer research by trentbarton found that 80% of customers have a contactless card. With more than 40 million

customer journeys each year, a similar 20% take up across the trentbarton and Kinchbus networks would see an average of more than 20,000 contactless payments made each day. trentbarton and Kinchbus Managing Director Jeff Counsell said: “One-in-five is a huge number annually, but we only expect contactless to increase its share of
payments over time. This is especially true for our system which, uniquely for a UK bus company, automatically charges the lowest possible fare given where customers get on and the stop they get off at. This beats the flat charge levied by other operators. “With daily and 28-day caps too,
our customers will have confidence that they are getting the best possible value for money every time they tap on and off a Kinchbus or trentbarton service.” Kinchbus services will be first to
see contactless rolled out across its fleet this summer, followed by trentbarton by the autumn.
New brand for building society
Mansfield Building Society has announced the launch of its new brand as well as revealing a record post-tax profit of £1.75m. The new brand follows research
which included both member and intermediary feedback, and creative inspiration from the Society’s Head Office location, near Sherwood Forest, as well as a look back into the area’s rich industrial past. The Mansfield’s new logo
features a combined forest and stag motif and its building society status, which the Society says reaffirms its commitment to its strong mutual ethos and proud heritage. In 2018, The Mansfield lent £94m
in new mortgage loans resulting in an 11.7% increase in mortgage assets in the year, while at the same time adding almost £25m to its total savings balances, and
Gev Lynott
posting a record post-tax profit of £1.75m. Gev Lynott, Chief Executive at
The Mansfield, said: “We are very excited to announce our new brand which combines the Society’s rich heritage and mutual ethos with our financial strength and future
ambition. The new brand captures the spirit of Mansfield past and present, as well as the Society’s unwavering commitment to the community, which it has served for almost 150 years. “This is a brand which will be
seen across our branch network and via our online and social media channels, which we continue to invest in. The Society has already acquired larger premises in Sutton in Ashfield which are set to open later this year, and we are looking to further improve and add to our existing network if appropriate premises become available. “From a commercial perspective
our 2018 results reflect another strong performance, particularly in the savings and mortgage markets where we continue to develop products and services that our members want and need, now and in the future.”
