BRITISH BREEDING ANNOUNCES 2019 FUTURITY PLANS B
ritish Breeding is delighted to announce the dates and plans for it’s 2019 British Breeding Baileys Horse Feeds Futurity evaluations. This highly regarded series for foals and young stock aims to identify talented horses that will go on to
compete successfully in the future. With many Futurity graduates already competing at top level in Dressage, Endurance, Eventing and Showjumping the series offers the ideal opportunity for breeders to showcase their potential stars. The 2019 British Breeding Baileys Horse Feeds Futurity sees several developments designed to build on their world-leading evaluation system, delivering an independent and objective detailed assessment of performance potential and opening opportunities for British bred foals and youngsters from all studbooks. In preparation for the relaunch of the Equine Bridge, British Breeding’s young stock
development programme organised in cooperation with the Olympic Disciplines and designed to put more British riders on British horses, separate Futurity evaluation days have been dedicated to 3 to 5-year olds. Organiser and director of British Breeding, Dr Eva-Maria Broomer, explains, “The age range has been opened up to allow older horses the opportunity to qualify for the Bridge. Having these on separate days will allow us to use a tailor made and optimised assessment structure for that age group, designed to give the very best feedback and support at that crucial age. Our focus will then turn to the younger foals, yearlings and two-year olds that will be assessed on the other dates”. A new grading system has also been announced, replacing the old third, second and
first premiums with Bronze, Silver and Gold. This reflects the Futurity’s recognition of the quality of a wide range of riding horses and ponies, from those suitable for the ambitious amateur to the next generation of international Grand Prix horses. Futurity season will be rounded off with a special celebration and Futurity Gala,
showcasing the very best of British Breeding and offering interested buyers the opportunity to find an excellent range of special youngsters in one place. British Breeding’s Futurity Evaluations have developed several unique benefits to
breeders. Each entry undergoes a thorough veterinary assessment of soundness and conformation and receives expert nutritional advice. A detailed evaluation from a panel

FLAGSHIP EVENT IN WARWICKSHIRE.` A
flagship equestrian event in Warwickshire for school and riding club competitors from all over the UK is saddling up for it’s best ever year with two local businesses on board.
The Two Day Event run by Stoneleigh Riding Club and held at Princethorpe College has been boosted with property companies The Wigley Group and Howkins & Harrison as joint main sponsors. They are now encouraging other local businesses to show their support for the
horse trials which is the only event of it’s kind in the UK. Some 240 riders are set to compete in the ‘long format’ event which
encompasses dressage, show-jumping, roads and tracks, steeplechase and cross- country disciplines over two days on the estate at Princethorpe, Rugby. They will be joined by a bigger field of supporters and spectators during the Bank Holiday weekend of Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26. Wendy Bell, chairman of Stoneleigh Riding Club, said: “We are very fortunate to
have The Wigley Group and Howkins & Harrison as joint main sponsors. The costs of putting on the event are quite considerable and we couldn’t do it without them. “The Two Day Event is now in it’s 16th year and with their support, we are hoping it will bring even more competitors and spectators from across the UK.” Both main sponsors have strong connections with Princethorpe College, and The Wigley Group has created a water jump in the grounds which will be a main feature of the cross-country course. James Davies, managing director of The Wigley Group, said: “We are delighted that Howkins & Harrison are joining us as main sponsors this year and hope that other local businesses will support our ambitions to build on the success of this unique event for schools and riding clubs.” Jeff Paybody, partner at Howkins & Harrison, whose daughter is again due to
compete as part of the Princethorpe College team, said: “With our connections with property and the countryside, it is a great event to be supporting and we would encourage other companies particularly with rural interests to get involved as a fence sponsor or trade stand exhibitor.” Alex Darkes, assistant head at Princethorpe College, said: “This is the fiſth year that the Two Day Event has been run on the estate and we are incredibly grateful for the support of The Wigley Group and Howkins & Harrison as main sponsors and Stoneleigh Riding Club as organisers, all of whom have very strong Princethorpe connections.”
