Challenge and couldn’t for the life of me remember where fence four was!” laughs Yvonne. Amazingly, even aſter this course navigational error that

forced the head runners to join the rest of the field, the partnership still came back to win. “We ended up re-joining the race in the middle of the pack and I remember thinking as riders and horses were falling and cutting us up that this was not going to be good”, says Yvonne. “Even though I thought we could be in trouble I made sure I didn’t send my fear through my body to Jaffa.” Yvonne went on to expertly pilot the unflinching Jaffa to

victory by angling fences so close to the flag and asking her trusted steed to take strides out. “He is one cool customer and doesn’t panic about having to be at the front”, says Yvonne. “He almost shrugs the other runners off and says ‘Whatever, I’ll soon be back where I want to be!’ It’s because I know and trust him so much that we can wing and take strides out at fences when we need to.” Understandably and commendably, Yvonne is very protective of Jaffa and the love and unique reciprocated trust that has formed between them is never taken for granted and is truly cherished. “The only other person that I will let occasionally ride him is my son Jamie, but we ride very similarly”, says Yvonne. “I am also very wary of putting him in a position where he might fall, I would never forgive myself if I asked too much and he injured himself; as much as I like winning, I will never put Jaffa in danger.” At the time of writing Yvonne and Jaffa have yet again lead the Fox Grant Dot Com team to yet another victory and their

dominance on the team chase and hunt ride scene shows no signs of slowing down. “As soon as he has competed, he switches right off and chills out”, say Yvonne. “I oſten think that he must be tired, but no, he comes out week aſter week as fresh as ever.”
