Foals:
Foals should be wormed regularly until they are 18 months old, regardless of any FWEC results
The first wormer (Panacur) should be given at 2½ -3 months old to treat ascarids.
Foals should then be wormed according to the type of worms seen on FWECs
Aſter weaning, foals should be treated every 3-4 months, until they are 18 months old
A treatment for encysted redworm (moxidectin) should be included each autumn (only for foals over 4 months old) and a product effective against tapeworm (moxidectin and praziquantal - Equest pramox) should be included at least once a year (only for foals over 6 ½ months old).
From 18 months old, foals can follow the same worming protocol as adult horses
Foal Identification:
It is a legal requirement for all foals to have a passport and a microchip.
This must be done before the foal reaches six months of age or by December 31st in the year it is born (whichever is later).
This allows correct identification of foals and prevents theſt as no horse should be sold without a valid passport
