BUSINESS NETWORK

Davies Turner Bristol first opened for business in May 1984, working from rented offices within the then Council owned Bristol Docks in Avonmouth. We needed our own Freight Cargo handling warehouse which we had built in 1995 on a site with expansion options located close to the M5 motorway which we called Western Freight Terminal. In 2008 we used the expansion land to build our first Logistics warehouse known locally as Phase 2.

The Bristol Port was privatised during the late 80s and from that time the old, large and polluting chemical industries of Avonmouth started to change into light industrial and distribution businesses. Davies Turner is a well known and established name within Avonmouth and throughout the South West and have enjoyed a consistent year on year growth.

At the beginning of 2016, the company managed to acquire a rare 12-acre freehold site at Severn Beach which is just on the edge of Avonmouth and within a 10-minute drive from Western Freight Terminal. This sought after location will shortly have a direct motorway access built by the Highways Agency giving improved access to the major M4 and M5 motorway networks that connect Avonmouth to London and the South East, the Midlands and the South West.

During 2016 the design detail of our second Logistics warehouse was completed and we put the building works out to tender. We chose a company from Derbyshire called Bowmer & Kirkland and the site works and piling for the new building started at the end of February 2017. We used just over half the 12 acres for this first build which still leaves us plenty of room to expand as our future business requirements grow.

We took over our New Central Park Logistics site during October last year and started moving in our first customers’ pallets from the beginning of last November. CP1 as we will call it is Davies Turner’s largest logistics warehouse to date with a foot print of 147,000 sq.ft and stands 19m high at the eves. By comparison our Bristol Phase 2 site is 66,000 sq.ft. and 16m at the eves.

Inside, the building has our traditional high bay area with a top beam lift of 17.5m making it one of the highest lifts in Europe for VNA fork lift operations.

We can hold 27,000 full standard pallets and still have around 3,000 spare half height locations for stacking cartons of low pallets below the ground floor pick spaces. We have built four mezzanine floors with an average area of 34,000 sq.ft each with conveyor and pallet lift access from the ground floor as well as between each of the mezzanine floors. Access to the warehouse is through 18 loading docks with a separate drive in ramp at one end and an extra wide pallet only door at the other which sits under a large canopy where we can load two double decker pallet trailers in the dry.

At times we could be working with over 150 warehouse staff so there are large canteen and welfare areas located within the ground floor offices. The site has been fully secured with palisade fencing and barriers controlling vehicle arrivals and departures. Vehicle movements and warehouse staff reception are controlled through our ground floor transport office whilst on the first office floor we have very modern looking customer service desks with meeting and presentation offices.

Central Park will network with Bristol Phase 2 site and all the other logistics hubs within the company. It compliments our national logistics operations and provides much needed scope to sell logistics space and services to customers both within the South West area and nationally. It’s a fantastic new facility with a wow factor justly deserved for our company with such a strong logistics reputation.
