COOKING skills
ENRICHMENT T
he enrichment cycle from September to February has come to a close. Every Key Stage 3 student has now completed their first enrichment activity and 64 students achieved their gold target. These students have
been awarded a certificate of completion and reward strip associated with the club they completed. The community and volunteering sector of Enrichment has thoroughly been embedded into the programme and has continued for another round. We have 6 students volunteering at a care home and 15 at Charlton Manor Primary School. Cooking has continued to be a popular choice and has grown in size with some budding chefs in the making. The new cycle of Enrichment brings a brand new club to our programme.
Primary School Enrichment T
he Primary School enrichment was only launched in September 2018 but with such high demand,
students have had to rotate halfway through the cycle in order to offer this opportunity to the maximum number of students. The first group set the bar exceptionally high but the second group succeeded in matching it.
Staff at Charlton Manor could not praise our students enough for the way they worked with the primary school children. Particular praise went to Olivia
Wootten and Erin Corry. Olivia was commended for the enormous growth in her confidence in such a short space of time and Erin was described as a natural due to the way she interacted with children in the Foundation Stage, particularly those with special educational needs.
Though students at both schools were upset for the first enrichment cycle to come to an end, Charlton Manor were very much looking forward to welcoming the next group of AGFS students into their classrooms in the second half of the academic year.
HELPING THE COMMUNITY
A
t the start of this academic year, Mr Finneran created a brand new Cooking
Enrichment Club.
Students have spent over a term learning different skills and learning about the importance of health and hygiene in the kitchen.
Students visited Charlton Manor Primary School teaching kitchen where they were taught by a chef and made their own calzone pizzas from scratch. Students have also had the chance to create other wonderful recipes in school such as chocolate mug cakes, cake truffles, vegetable salad, cheese straws and bread to name a few.
The cooking enrichment has been so popular that it has doubled it in size for the second cycle of enrichment. We look forward to working with a brand new group of aspiring chefs!
