INTER HOUSE POETRY T
he Inter House Poetry Competition invited students to write a poem inspired by a single word. Students chose between
‘Conversation,’ ‘Self’ and ‘City.’ At KS3, the winner was David Oshunkoya 7W, with his poem ‘The City.’ At KS4 the winner was Fatima Ghanim 11W, with her poem ‘I’m Scared of Tomorrow.’
I’m scared of tomorrow, I’m scared of the unknown, I’m scared of the after, I am afraid that I have not pleased, So I stay and I have been seized, That’s why I have been released, To go and see the least, to See she has been teased, She said she was released, Just like me, she reminded me Of an athlete and to see she’s so keen, That’s why I say to breathe before being seen, It’s like she’s so intrigued, It’s like she’s never been seen and she was me.

WORLD BOOK DAY 2019 O
n Thursday 7th March, Ark Greenwich Free School joined the nation
by celebrating World Book Day. As a school, we always endeavour to support literacy; in fact it is one of the key factors to the academic
success of our students. Once again, it was pleasing to see all of the staff and students get dressed up and involved in promoting reading for pleasure around the school. The library hosted many activities to promote this day- a day that was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
WHO WANTS TO BE A WORD MILLIONAIRE ?
orning reading is the term we give to the 30 minutes of taught reading which takes
place at the start of every school day. In these sessions every pupil and every teacher settles down to share a book together for half an hour.
It’s a great way to start the school day and to give primacy to the number one skill which will determine the success of our pupils in school and beyond: reading.
When a pupil has finished a book, either in morning reading or in their own time, they take an Accelerated Reading quiz which allows them to track how many words they have read in the year. We track word count to encourage reading; rewards and recognition are given to pupils who have read lots.
We recognise pupils who reach ‘Word Millionaire’ status by taking them on a trip at the end of the year. Look at the league table on the website, to see the top students so far this academic year.
