’ DAY
rk Greenwich Free school were delighted to celebrate International
Women’s Day in March with a week full of activities celebrating everything female!
All students attended an assembly led by Miss Yandell who shared the findings from her recent Masters research
where she investigated how schools prepare female students for leadership positions in the workplace. The research was particularly prevalent as it was conducted at AGFS with some of our female students.
Staff across the school then offered a variety of lunchtime workshops to celebrate this important week including a music workshop led by Mr Sutcliffe where students learnt about the famous author George Eliot and the story of ‘The Mill On The Floss’; a Drama workshop where students created their own ‘This girl can’ advert and where students explored famous female speeches; a STEAM workshop with Mr Dale discussing the next generation of female engineers; an Art workshop with Mr Pitt looking at the representation of females in art and a History workshop with Dr Sims and Miss Cave exploring the history of women’s rights and the struggles still being faced today.
The most popular event however had to be the chocolate bar building workshop led by Mr Fincham and Miss Reddy where students discussed famous female scientists and got to enjoy playing with and eating chocolate! Thank you to all the staff who supported this event and to all the students who participated in the celebrations.
