Sooner or later, every man of God hits a valley, faces a major disappointment, receives unjustified wounds, or feels like his world is out of control. Isaiah had the experience with King Uzziah; David with Ahithophel; Jesus with Judas. But the Lord has assured us, He will not suffer us to be tempted beyond that which we can endure, and with the temptation He will provide us with a way of escape. But we must accept the way He provides, and it may be a tough way. It may be the way of the Cross, but that’s when we can find God and discover who and what we are in Him.

In the case of Dr. John E. Douglas, Sr., a friend suggested an emotional and ministerial escape for him by inviting Dr. Douglas to join a mission trip to India.

It’s a strange thing, but when you are down, there always seems to be someone who gives you an additional kick in the spiritual ribs. For Dr. Douglas, that someone showed up in the form of a Hindu man after a crusade service in India. Dr. Douglas had just finished ministering to the gathered crowds when the angry Hindu man goaded him by asking:

“Do you really believe what you are preaching? You do? Then here are six homeless orphans for you to take care of. Goodbye!”

That’s the emotional, psychological, and spiritual tipping point. You’re knocked off balance…you’re going over…you’re going to fall. Of course, the real question is which way and where — on the side of faith or on the side of hopelessness? You could say it’s ridiculous and leave, or instead you could say perhaps I have come to the Kingdom for such a time as this. It depends on what’s deep inside you.

Dr. John E. Douglas, Sr. rose to the challenge. He prolonged his stay in India to make temporary provision for the children. Then he returned to the United States and began to raise funds for their future care. Thus began the work of World Missionary Evangelism. And because of his response, Dr. John E. Douglas, Sr. became known in India as the “Father of Millions.”

WORLD MISSIONARY EVANGELISM IS NOW 60 YEARS FURTHER ON IN GOD. From 1959 to 2019, this ministry has continued to move forward. Six is the number
