Leper/Medical Outreach

LEPROSY…It’s a chronic disease dating back to Biblical times, and it still afflicts thousands of people today. Leprosy mainly affects the poor who are unable to get regular medical care. Modern medical therapies can effectively treat and control the condition. But left untreated, it can lead to loss of sight, ulcers, and amputation.

Those with leprosy live with fear and hopelessness. They are outcasts from society, forced to move to leper colonies. Even when they are no longer contagious, the stigma and disfigurement remains, forcing them to remain in leper colonies for the rest of their lives.

There is also a continuing need for general medical care. People in many countries live in impoverished areas where access to the most basic medical care is difficult. Some must travel long distances to see a nurse or doctor. Even then, they don’t have money to pay for services. Children are particularly at risk from a lack of medicine and basic care.

For decades, WME and its supporters have responded by showing Christian compassion to suffering people through medical assistance and care. We have built medical facilities as well as clinics specifically for lepers. WME also supports medical outreaches to impoverished areas.

Right now, you can help save lives by helping to provide medicine, first aid, and basic care, food and clothing, prayer and counselling, and medical procedures to those in need. A gift a $100 can purchase much needed medicine, and a larger gift can help us supply clinics or provide procedures.
