3 What?

“What will my answer be, what can I say When Jesus calls me home? What can I bring that will ever repay The wonderful love He has shown?”

Lyrics from “When Jesus Beckons Me Home” by Gene Arnold

If there is one word that seems to summarize our day and time it is the word – WHAT?!?

What's going on in the world? What's gone wrong?

What are we going to do? Can we do anything? What if our lives and futures are beyond our control?

What's the problem with our political leaders? What are they going to do? Are they going to do anything? What are they thinking? Are they able to do anything to move the ball forward? When will the major issues confronting the nation be resolved? And if and when they are addressed in some way, how long until the next big crisis?

What’s going on in the world of economics? What’s going on in the stock market? What’s going on with international trade relations and tariffs? What’s going on when so many people can’t make ends meet?

What’s going on in nature? What’s causing all the floods, the fires, and the weather extremes?

What’s going on in society? Why all the crime and shootings? Why can’t we stop the drugs and violence?

What’s going on internationally? What’s China going to do? What about North Korea? Syria? Iran? What’s going on at our southern border? What’s the cause of floods of people fleeing from Central America?

What’s the cause of the paralysis? What’s the cause of the schism, the disagreement, the intemperance, and the visceral, bitter opposition? If some people in one political party think they have an answer, then others on the other side of the aisle think they don’t. Round and round we go.

The “What’s” are endless. Today, there is certainly no lack of questions. The only thing there seems to be a lack of is good answers.

But praise the Lord, there is one ”What” that answers all the other “Whats” we may face:

He will bring joy and gladness, take away sin and sadness.” (Lyrics by Benjamin A. Baur)

“What the world needs is Jesus, just a glimpse of Him.

May God help our leaders, our society, and our world to catch that glimpse of His hope and true peace! Amen.
