Campaign team scoop major award
Doncaster Chamber won the British Chambers of Commerce ‘Most Effective Campaigning Award 2018’, sponsored by Heathrow Airport, for their ‘determination’ and ‘dedication’ to opening a University Technical College (UTC) in the town centre. The Chamber has worked closely with a range
of different sector partners on the three-year campaign – including Hungerhill School, Doncaster MBC, Doncaster College & University Centre, National College for High Speed Rail, University of Sheffield and a plethora of businesses – to offer a STEM-based curriculum and fill a skills gap being reported by local firms particularly in the rail and engineering sectors. The judges were impressed with how the campaign has helped make the Chamber relevant to the younger generation and described it as ‘strong, successful and effective’. The team worked hard to secure the support of Doncaster MPs and persuaded ministers that the College will be effective despite obstacles elsewhere. Dan Fell, CEO of Doncaster Chamber and Chair of the Doncaster UTC project steering group, said: “Winning the Most Effective Campaigning category at the national British Chambers of Commerce Awards for our work on the Doncaster University Technical College and wider role in supporting the education sector through the Doncaster Skills Academy is testament to the fact that we’re a Chamber that gets things done for Doncaster, its business community and people. “This is the third time in seven years that we

Centre with their own individual passwords and publish their own businesses’ news and events online. More services will be added in the spring as the Chamber launches its new
