Business News Growth for business is child’s play
Doncaster-based House of Play, the world-leading manufacturer of indoor playgrounds and soft play equipment, is celebrating a record year of growth which saw the annual turnover increase from £750k to £1.4m having secured £15,000 of investment, thanks to the support of Business Doncaster, a partner of the Sheffield City Region Growth Hub Enhancement Project. The Enhancement
Project is aimed at supporting growing businesses and is financed by the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020. Launched in 1994, House of Play
has since been leading the way for indoor play equipment suppliers. The £15,000 investment that
Business Doncaster’s Key Account Manager helped House of Play to secure contributed to the purchase of new equipment as well as allowing the firm to double the workforce in order to keep up with
the spike in demand for its products on a global scale. Director of House of Play Kevin
Bowles said: “The ongoing support we’ve received from Business Doncaster has been fantastic. Sue, our Key Account Manager, immediately got to know our current operation, delved into what
we needed and understood what avenues could be available for us. “2018 has been our most
successful year to date and I look forward to continuing to work closely with Business Doncaster as we push for further expansion.” Sue Harrison, Key Account Manager, added: “It’s excellent to

Gift giving brings charities together
When Sheffield business woman Faye Smith donated Christmas gifts to survivors of human trafficking, she had no idea she would create an opportunity for two of the city’s best loved charities to support each other. Since Faye’s daughter Gabi died of a
rare seizure aged 12 five years ago, she has used her daughter’s Christmas gift money to buy gifts for women and children who have been trafficked. Faye said: “The first year
Gabi died, I had already bought her several gifts and after hearing City Hearts Manager Kirsty Wilson speak at a Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber Women in Business event, I realised they would make lovely presents for children in City Heart’s safe houses. “Every year since, I have
Faye Smith, Director at Keep Your Fork Marketing & PR
donated gifts. This year, I also donated pyjamas, slippers and dressing gowns to our charity of the year on behalf of our Keep Your Fork clients. This year, the Children’s Hospital Corporate Partnerships Manager Tchad Western contacted me and said he had received a donation of children’s slippers and ponchos the hospital charity could not use and would City Hearts like them? I made the connection and now two fabulous charities have benefited each other.” Ed Newton, Director of City Hearts, said: “We are so grateful to The Children’s Hospital Charity for supporting the City Hearts Christmas appeal.”
