Prince’s Trust takes the pledge
Youth charity The Prince’s Trust is the latest organisation to sign up to the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce’s (ABCC) ‘Diversity in Leadership’ pledge. Shikha Kashyap-Davies, head of operations at
the firm, met with the Chamber’s newly appointed diversity and inclusion manager, Misbah Rahman, for the signing. The ‘Diversity in Leadership’ campaign works
with some of the region’s biggest employers in order to boost the numbers of women, and those from black and minority ethnic (BAME), lesbian gay bisexual and transgender (LGBT) and disability groups, in the boardroom and in leadership roles. The Prince’s Trust is the ninth organisation to
sign the pledge. The charity was founded in 1976 by the Prince of Wales, and supports 11 to 30 year olds with education and training that will help them find work. Ms Kashyap-Davies said: “The Prince’s Trust
values and respects people’s different backgrounds, characteristics, ideas and beliefs. I am proud to be working in partnership with
ABCC, here in Birmingham to support and help increase diversity in leadership by participating in this important pilot.” Ms Rahman said: “We are really thrilled to
have The Prince’s Trust on board as the ninth Diversity in Leadership pledge company. “Their commitment to diversity and work with
young people will be a positive example for other organisations like them, across the West Midlands and beyond.”
As part of the diversity campaign, the ABCC
hosted a workshop on the effects of ‘unconscious bias’, the unintentional categorisation of people formed by social experience. The event was held in conjunction with RightTrack Learning. ABCC director Anjum Khan said:“Unconscious
bias is a crucial issue that must be addressed in order to understand and implement effective change. RightTrack were fantastic in their ability to convey that message to attendees.”
