Product Focus American Made, Roll Packed Mattresses

By Elaina Hundley Over the course of the past year or so, we’ve seen an uptick in interest in both American-made and roll packed mattresses. And recently, a retailer reader confirmed the popularity of these benefits when they requested more information on the product category. As a result, we decided to explore the topic in our winter Product Focus feature. With roll packed and easy-ship beds becoming the new norm and consumers looking to support American manufacturing, retailers benefit from stocking their showrooms with domestically made products that are simple to send home to the customer. The following is a sampling of brands that offer mattresses made in America and smart, easy-ship options.

1 Posh+Lavish Posh+Lavish is unique in that it compresses mattresses exclusively for brick-and-mortar independent retailers. The brand doesn’t con- sider itself a bed-in-a-box company because it does not sell online or through its own stores, nor does it make home deliveries. In- stead, Posh + Lavish offers a truly luxurious product and price point that demands an in- store selection experience. Featuring several different collections—including all-latex, latex hybrid, latex+memory foam and all natural latex models—Posh+Lavish mattresses are

made with temperature regulating Tencel fab- ric, which weighs over 600 grams. Posh+Lav- ish mattresses use latex on all four sides with pre-compressed, long fiber, medium course grade wool and knitted, all natural cotton. The mattresses are void of harmful chemicals and built by hand in California. For Posh+Lavish, the choice to roll-pack all of its mattresses started because it enhances the comfort feel of each bed. Side benefits of roll-packing in- clude space savings and a reduced risk of freight damage.

2 Brooklyn Bedding Brooklyn Bedding’s owner John Merwin pi- oneered the bed-in-a-box concept in 2008. For Brooklyn Bedding, the ability to roll pack a mattress has always been a simple deliv- ery mechanism for what it does best: custom craft high quality mattresses on demand in its Phoenix, Arizona factory and ship them directly to customers’ doors. The vertically integrated company values its control over material quality and cost. Today, Brooklyn Bedding can deliver virtually any mattress as a bed-in-a-box option. Since its first mat- tress sold on Amazon, the brand has com- pressed every type of foam including latex, latex alternative and memory foam with any advanced technology imaginable. By devel- oping its own individually pocketed spring machines, the brand is able to produce roll pack compatible hybrid mattresses. While Brooklyn Bedding has its own storefront and e-commerce business, it also offers wholesale solutions. Its on-demand, facto- ry-direct production approach is extremely advantageous to retailers. By shipping prod- uct orders from online and brick and mor- tar buyers direct to consumers, the retailers can stock little to no inventory, saving them space and hassle.
