Fare & Fairs! FESTIVE
Looking for a Christmas gift that’s just a little bit extra special? Then check out our round-up of festive markets and fairs across the region which will almost certainly help you in your quest to fi nd perfect presents
Jennie Buist Brown
hether they’re from a large fair in London or a
small village market, unique gifts bought directly from antique
dealers, talented makers and crafts people are just that little bit more special than the mass produced items available in chain stores. And the joy of buying directly from the maker is infi nitely greater than buying online. Not only are you supporting the artists and makers by buying their unique creations but your thoughtfulness is almost certain to earn you much kudos from family and friends – a win-win situation all round! So this year forget the soap on a rope and the six-pack of socks and head out to one of these amazing events.
CHRISTMAS MARKETS
PENSHURST VINTAGE CHRISTMAS FAIR. Showcasing vintage homewares, clothes, jewellery, furniture and gifts, this fair is a must for all lovers of vintage. Enjoy live music from past decades brought to you by Miss Vintage. Stop for a well-deserved break in the pop-up tea room by Dolly’s Diner. • 3rd November, 10am-4pm. Entry is £2. Penshurst Village Hall, Penshurst TN11 8BP.
RAYSTEDE CHRISTMAS FAIR. Raystede has a special place in my heart. Both my dogs have been adopted from there – Mr Magnus, our beautiful boy who lived to be an old man, and current dog, black lab Poppy. The centre does the most amazing work caring for and re-homing all sorts of
animals from rats to Rottweilers. Visit for a jam-packed two days of festive food, drinks and gifts, all with an animal theme. • 1st & 2nd December from 10am at The Broyle (BN8 5AJ). Visit
raystede.org
PASHLEY MANOR GARDENS. Pashley Manor Garden shop will open from 23rd November- 3rd December for Christmas shopping. A great place to fi nd unique gifts and cards. • Pashley Manor Gardens (TN5 7HE), check website for opening hours. Visit
pashleymanorgardens.com or call 01580 200888.
GOUDHURST. On 24th November the historic hilltop village of Goudhurst will hold an event that combines the High Street shops opening late with a Christmas Fair. You’ll be able to visit the pretty shops, all lit up around the duck pond, admire the illuminated church and then head for a warming drink at one of the three village pubs. • Visit visittunbridgewells. com/whats-on/christmas-fair-and-late-night- shopping-in-goudhurst-p257971
TENTERDEN. On the afternoon of Friday 23rd November, Tenterden will switch on its Christmas lights, and for the rest of the weekend all things Christmassy will be celebrated in the town. There will be market stalls, a winter wonderland and I’ve heard
that Father Christmas will be taking time out from his busy schedule to pay a visit! • For more information, visit
