for the fi rst time ever. Her risky intrigue with Lady Margaret Beaufort (mother to Henry VII, the fi rst Tudor) helped end the Wars of the Roses and establish the Tudor dynasty. There is also a rare portrait of her other grandson Arthur, Henry VIII’s older brother who died aged 15.

been had Arthur lived. As it was, it was brother Henry who took on the mighty Catholic Church and other European powers during his seven-year divorce from Spanish fi rst wife, Katherine of Aragon, so he could marry Anne. Dr David Starkey believes that this bitter battle helped turn the pious, multi-talented Renaissance prince into a cruel and paranoid tyrant,
Dr Starkey goes on to describe Henry’s break with Rome as the fi rst Brexit. “Who could decide on the king’s marriage? A court in Rome!” In an ironic twist, he credits France with helping Henry achieve

VOODOO ROOM Stag Theatre, Sevenoaks, 3rd Nov If you’re a fan of the British Blues invasion of the late 60s and early 70s you won’t be disappointed. Voodoo Room are a power trio who pay tribute to the music of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Cream and they comprise Pete Orr, John Tonks and Andy Tolman. These are busy musicians and on occasions both John and Andy could be
replaced with equally talented members due to musical commitments elsewhere. Either way you’re in for a treat.

THE ANDY DRUDY
DISORDER The Bedford, Tunbridge Wells, 11th Nov With so many excellent blues guitarists around it takes something special these days to stand out from the rest. Andy Drudy was nominated in the 2013 British Blues awards and that should tell you what to expect on this early evening slot down at the Bedford. He’s backed by three superb guys in the name of Mark Cherrie, Eric Ford and Terry Gregory. • Call the venue on 01892 578538.
GROSVENOR ROAD The Rose & Crown, Tunbridge Wells, 16th Nov Although this is the fi rst time that I have covered this venue, I’m certain that it will not be the last. Recently taken over, the pub itself is worth a visit as it has that homely feel that you used to get back when proper pubs adorned the streets. The fact that this pub has live music most weekends, is of course an added bonus. The wonderfully rhythmic Grosvenor kick off at 8pm to get your weekend off to a fl ying start. • Call 0333 320 2088.
