62 EXTERNAL ENVELOPE

Remote-access doors, which use electromagnetic doors, can be specified with back-up features so that occupants can escape, even during the event of a power cut. For double doors, clever mechanisms have been designed so that in the event of an emergency, either the master door leaf or slave door leaf can be pushed and both doors will open. These not only increase safety, but also eliminate the need for ‘managed security solutions’ where doors need to be bolted ‘out of hours’.

Safety

Safety on commercial buildings is absolutely crucial. Nowadays, there is advanced door technology to help ensure that in an emergency, everyone can leave the building quickly and safely, without compromising on security.

Housing development oozes charm

A multi-million pound project to create an exclusive development of 12 houses has fitted specialist aluminium glazing from award-winning fabricator AluFoldDirect. More than 200 products produced by

AluFoldDirect feature in the stunning five-and-six bedroom homes. In every property, a dozen AluK 58BW slimline flat sash window systems in anthracite grey were installed. To complement this, two or in some cases three aluminium BSF bi-fold door systems also featured and stunning sets of bespoke aluminium French doors complement the exclusive, high-end property specification.

office accommodation, just 150m from the train station and transport hub. Working alongside architects Nicholas Grimshaw, and contractors Galliford Try, the £87 million office space required a modern, sleek, and minimalistic finish that would complement the existing surroundings, and the Novista system provided the ideal solution.

The best glazing combination Some aluminium commercial glazing systems use clever engineering to create cost-effective products that incorporate these three features, so specifiers can deliver safe, warm and secure commercial projects. On your next project, make sure that these three points are really considered. Not only will end-users thank you, but it’ll also mean that your build exceeds standards and is future-proof. Future glazed buildings need great, futuristic performance levels, without compromise.

The importance of visual aesthetics to architects is demonstrated by the popularity of the FWS 60 CV concealed vent facade from Schueco UK. The unique feature of this state-of-the-art aluminium system for floor- to-ceiling ribbon windows is that from the outside it is impossible to see which vents

open and which vents are fixed. With burglar resistance up to RC 2, the Schueco FWS 60 CV facade is the ideal system for enhancing the thermal performance and visual appearance of new-builds and existing commercial properties.
