LM is helping to deliver part of HS2 – the UK’s new high speed railway.
What does your company do? We provide electric, gas and water meters for domestic, commercial and industrial users of energy and water.
How did it all start? Honeywell acquired the Elster Metering business in 2016, the Elster business has been one of the largest companies in the metering sector for decades.
What’s your greatest achievement so far? I have to say my family – I’ve got three sons and I’m very proud of them.
What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken – and did it work out? Leaving my career in the Army and going to university – haven’t looked back since!
What keeps you awake at night? Not much, I try to look after the important things: family, health, friends etc. if that’s all OK, the rest takes care of itself.
If you could turn the clock back, what would you do differently? Learn to ski a lot earlier than I did, I feel I missed out on a lot of great holidays.
What has surprised you most in your job? The scale of the metering business, it’s easy to forget that every home
has meters and businesses, office blocks, schools, supermarkets, hospital etc. can have multiple metering points.
What advice would you give to someone starting out? Be courageous, push yourself out of your comfort zone, keep leaning and developing.
Which business do you most admire? I’m impressed with businesses that promote their ethics as part of their brand. I also think this is ‘good business’ as the next generation will be far more ethically and environmentally aware.
What exciting projects is your business working on? The SMART Meter rollout – we’ve delivered millions of first- generation meters (SMETS1) and are about to start with the second- generation meters (SMETS2).
What made you join Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and how are you making use of your membership? We work throughout the UK and international but wanted to engage with local business and develop our local connections. We’ve attended and exhibited at the Chamber Expo events.
