Enrichment Programme First Aid Training

Abbeyfield Sports Enrichment Coordinators took part in a “First Aid training course” run by Wiltshire and Swindon School Sports. They received training from Rik Grover, Sports Consultant Wiltshire and Swindon Sport (WASP), who has been working with Mrs Pierce and the Sports Ambassadors and Sports Enrichment.

Sarah Saville writes: On the 9th of June the sports enrichment coordinators took part in first aid training. The training involved learning the basics of first aid; such as resuscitation, back blows and abdominal thrusts. We also learnt how to deal with serious bleeding and how to act if we are the first to attend an accident.

The course was really enjoyable and everyone had fits of laughter at some points, mainly because of Ms Smith’s questions! Rik was fun and allowed us to learn the basics easily in an enjoyable way!

The skills we learnt will allow us to be first at hand during sporting accident and will be helpful for us throughout our lives!

A fantastic achievement and I’m delighted to say all passed the qualification and now fully trained in first aid.

Royal Wootton Bassett Academy Football Success

The U12 Girls faced a tough St Joseph's side in the County Cup earlier this year. The original fixture had to be abandoned due to the torrential down pour at Stanley Park and both teams were held to a 2-2 draw. The girls knew they had to bring their ‘A’ game and went 1-0 up from a magical Nikita Steele run where she ran the whole length of the pitch and slotted it home. The St Joseph's girls didn’t give up, narrowly missing a 1v1 but great pressure from Amelia George in goal saw the ball go just wide. The girls then doubled their lead with a great surging run from Jasmine Young for Maisie King to knock past the goalkeeper. St Josephs were not finished yet and clawed a goal back by running in past the defence 2-1 at half time. It was another tough second half with both teams fighting and pressuring each other, Bassett managed to score another with Maisie King scoring a brace. Once again St Josephs were not giving up and clawed back a fine finish before the dying minutes of the game. Final score 3-2 RWBA.

The yr9 Boys football team were crowned Wiltshire County Champions 2016; The school's most successful football team made their

way to yet another final. The game had the added sentimental value of being the last time all the boys would play together because J. Murray will be moving schools. As if it was written in the stars, J. Murray scored the final goal of the game and of the year 9 season. He used the outside of his foot to curl the ball around the keeper and into the bottom corner of the net. A fitting finish to an outstanding spell of key stage 3 football for the year 9 boys.

will be assigned a dressing room and enjoy the whole backstage experience. The aim is for pupils to feel like a superstar and go home wanting to perform again. There is an optional theme: ‘Number 1s’ (could be a song or a film/movie), but you are welcome to perform anything of their choosing.
