Corsham U13 Cricket Team are Wiltshire County Champions!

The ECB started the Super 8s competition this year with eight players in the team, seven who bowl an over and one wicket keeper. Corsham played Sheldon in the Wiltshire qualifiers in June and superb bowling from Millie Lang and Angus Bollen as well as classy batting displays from Ed Bollen and Miles Littlechild. Corsham progress to the County Finals winning by 38 runs.

Under the watchful eye of Mr Smith and A level PE students Harry Beazer and Aidan Daniel, the team played the County Finals in the Chippenham Dome. Complacency saw the team lose to Royal Wootton Bassett heavily but the team did not take this to heart or let it affect their motivation and confidence. Then the final. It was a rousing speech from the coaches and captain Conor White. Corsham chose to bat first and played well with communication between the stumps excellent as Joe Swain, Ed, Angus and Miles put together decent scores to total forty-nine runs. RWBA needed fifty off seven overs to win. They scored 23 from the first two overs and it was looking like an almighty struggle for Corsham. In the fourth over Tom Tanner pitched the ball up and a drive that was destined for the Dome boundary (?) was caught one handed by the running backwards, arching Miles Littlechild. The team were jubilant and it sparked further cohesion and focus for the team. Conor White boweld a captains

over, Angus motivating the team at long-off. It was down to Angus for the last over, fifteen runs required. Right arm over. Dot. Dot. Two runs. The team could sense a victory coming. The coaches gave each other rye smiles. Run out. Run out. That was it. Corsham County Champions!!! The team on the day Conor White, Joe Swain, Angus Bollen, Ed Bollen, Miles Littlechild, Yash Carcha, Connor Mooney and Tom Tanner should be very proud of their accomplishments.

On the 11th of July, Corsham School represented Wiltshire at the South West of England Championships held at Bristol Gammer School. A wonderful venue to play cricket on an unseasonably warm and sunny day for July. Corsham showed grit and endeavour with the bat and lost by 20 runs. Cape Cornwall from Lands End were the next competitors and Corsham won handsomely batting, fielding and bowling well. Having scored more runs than the second place team in the other pool, Corsham finished third in the South West of England. Ben Roberston, Alex Crocker and Millie Lang, whose text book bowling action was the talk of the tournament, joining the team on this momentus day.

Thank you to Ali Goddard, Josh Boulton and @WiltsCricket for organising. Mr C Smith, Associate Assistant Headteacher Twitter: @CorshamPE

Kingdown pupils picked for sporting talent programme

FIVE pupils from Kingdown School took part in a programme which recognises some of the country’s most promising sporting talents last week.

The Talent Inspiration Programme, which was held at Loughborough University from August 31 - September 3, brought together 300 young aspiring county and regional athletes from across the UK to participate in a range of activities.

Anna Lancaster, MacyWrintmore, Amy Gordon, Adam Cooke and Corey Gardener were the five pupils from the school to feature, who were all nominated by PE teacher Greg Richardson. He said: “To have five pupils from the school feature in the programme is absolutely brilliant. “Usually, only one or two from each county go, so for five to go from Kingdown alone is absolutely fantastic and both the school and the pupils should be very proud of the achievements.

“They're all very talented athletes across a range of sports and three of the five have been helping with a leadership programme we’ve been running at the school.

“The programme they took part in is as much about keeping them engaged with sport as it is about them playing sport.

"It’s also good for developing teamwork and helping them set individual targets and is overall a great experience."

The workshops were led by a host of elite athletes, Olympians and Paralympians, including GB gymnastics star Max Whitlock, who won two gold medals in Rio last month.

Throughout the programme, the experienced Athlete Mentors were on hand to bring to life the world of an elite athlete and demonstrate the journey it takes to reach the top.
