West Wiltshire Schools Dance Legacy Workshops

Over 30 pupils from Matravers, Horningsham, Crockerton and Bitham Brook Primary schools took part in the first "West Wiltshire Schools Dance Legacy Days” the 2 hour workshop was designed to inspire and motivate young people, especially boys to Dance.


The workshop, led by students from the Endurance Dance Company from Matravers, coached and demonstrated Dance skills, choreographic


development and dance drills to the Primary boys. Getting boys to participate in dance and boys dancing in school was the area of focus as is often an element of dance that can be overlooked in Primary PE. “Every year the Matravers Dance students have been preforming at the West Wiltshire Schools Dance festival, and every year we receive comments from the audience and participants that they have been inspired and


This is the first of many of our bolt on Dance experiences that we will be organised as part of the West Wiltshire Dance Festival legacy programme, said Selwyn Widger West Wilts SGO. The event also created an impromptu dance CPD for the teachers in attendance as they were able to experience choreography and dance theme in action delivered by other Dance professionals.


We endeavour to have many collaborations between Gemma Richards Matravers Dance Department and the Endurance Dance Company for the continuation of Dance Legacy Days.


The West Wiltshire Schools Dance Festival will be held 21st- 23rd February 2017. The 2017 theme is “Dare to Dream”. The 3 day event is attended by over 50 schools and 900 students.

Swindon School Boys Football


Representatives from several Swindon schools have come together to represent the town in a number of inter association competitions, such as the ESFA National Cup. The under 15 side, led by Dave Gibbons and Alex Bush from Highworth Warneford School, had a very strong 2015/16 season. Competing in four competitions and finishing the season with two trophies; the highlight being a 4-3 win over a very strong Coventry School Boys at the Ricoh Arena to win the Paul Fletcher Memorial Trophy.


This season has started in a similar manner for the new under 15 squad with a fantastic win in the first round of the National Cup. The team were handed a tough draw away to Poole and East Dorset at


Poole Town FC. After going 1-0 down the team responded with great character and were able to equalise through Captain Tommy Suter in full time and then two goals in extra time from striker Jay Lewis secured a fantastic 3-1 win. A tough tie at home to Yeovil awaits the team in the next round.


A new squad this year is the under 13s, led by Jamie Richards from Royal Wootton Bassett Academy. They also started their season in an impressive manner with a comprehensive 6-1 win away at Cheltenham in the first round of the National Cup. The goals were scored by Bikash Limbu (4), Marcus Ifil and Captain Lewis Hutchison, who converted from the half way line. The team now face Swansea in the next round.

Congratulations to all the schools that took part in the School Games 2015-2016.
