Devizes Performance Academy
The academy has been set up to support those students who participate at county standard or higher in a number of sports. Its aim is to use a mentor and workshop system to support the development of our young athletes through the careful planning and management of our three founding pillars. These pillars are academic success, sporting success and social development. As well as a mentor system where students get personalised support once every two weeks from six dedicated members of staff and community sports clubs, the academy has a gym session nice and early on Friday mornings before school where the athletes
are expected to push themselves to improve specific physical aspects linked to their sport. Since the formation of the academy we have had lots of success which we are proud to report.
Harry Davis has been selected to participate in a European Basketball tournament in Estonia. Thomas Marshall made his debut for the Wiltshire Men’s Badminton Squad. William Scammell has finished 5th in the South West England Regional competition as well as achieving a personal best long jump of 5.69 metres. Chippenham Games 2016
British champion. She was England’s top ranked rhythmic gymnast in 2010 and helped make history at London 2012 as she and her teammates became the first rhythmic gymnastics team to represent Great Britain at an Olympic Games.
The Chippenham Games is a two day Olympic legacy event which is sponsored by Wiltshire Council and Up and Under Sports. It is now the largest event in the Chippenham Schools sporting calendar involving over 500 Year 6 pupils, at least ten local sports coaches and more than 30 Young Leaders from all three secondary Schools.
The event is also supported by the three local Secondary Head teachers Mrs Lisa Percy (Hardenhuish), Mr Ian Tucker (Abbeyfield), and Mr Neil Spurdell (Sheldon), who give the children a rousing welcome on both days and some words of wisdom to remind them of the Olympic values.
This event is an important part of the transition process for all pupils involved as teams are based on which School they are moving in to. Young Leaders from the secondary schools do a brilliant job leading teams, supporting and encouraging the children throughout the day. The Games are always officially opened by a Sporting Hero and this year we were excited to welcome Lynne Hutchison, Commonwealth Games bronze medallist and former junior

As part of their sports academy membership the students also had the opportunity to visit Bath University where they were fortunate enough to have a tour of the facilities as well as take part in a training session held by GB Skeleton athlete Dominic Parsons who is currently ranked in the world top 10. The students spent their time participating in a training session led by Dominic where they developed generic skills associated with Skeleton. As well as the training session, the students were also shown videos of Dominic performing as well as having the opportunity to experience the feeling of being on a Skeleton!

FC Chippenham Under 13 Girl’s Football Team Season 2015/16
This season five year 8 Abbeyfield students have been part of the FC Chippenham under 13 girls football team. The team mates are: Rebecca Golledge, Bethan Everett, Lizzie Weston, Abbi Jefferys and Briony Clifford.
There are 10 teams in the Wiltshire league which means 9 home games and 9 away. We travel to Frome, Warminster, Westbury, Trowbridge, Bath, Derry Hill, Swindon, Highworth and Ashton Keynes. Our season started last September and with cancellations for weather during the winter months, the season finished with our final league game away at Westbury in the middle of May. We are all very proud of the girls as they have only lost 2 league games
all season and finished runners up by just one point to Bath. In addition we also made it to the cup final where we lost 3-1 to Swindon. So our overall record for the season is played 21 games, won 18, lost 3
