began the month with a lot of positive news and information about many different subjects and also had a good friend

County Fair prides itself in the arena of horse racing where thousands and thousands of people merge together for hours of excitement, an ice cold beer and friends, as well as to see who will win this long stand- ing tradi- tion right here in the Redwood Empire!

I’ve only gone to the horse races 2 times in my life and found it to be very en- tertaining! When I

say the har- vest is on, I mean that my garden is now pro- ducing deli- cious green beans,

of mine, Cam Parry(who is a Honorary member of the Sonoma County Fair Board) write up a fun story about the famous Sonoma County Horse named Cavonnier. No one has ever printed this article. It was exclusively written for Upbeat Times Readers! Cam has al- ways been a fan of great people and of horse racing. He even wrote a play that debuted at the Luther Burbank Center a few years back called, ‘Longshot’. I could tell you about it, but you’d have to ask Cam (camparry@ frontier.com) about it person- ally, because it was fun, hilari- ous, entertaining and creative in more ways than one! I am personally not into horse

racing, but I know many, many people are. My favorite at the fair is the art displays and vari- ous food vendors! Te Sonoma

At one point I had a challenge with gofers and bugs but we filled in their holes and let the birds out into the garden to rid the area of most of the bugs. I don’t use any chemicals either! Just spraying a bit of dish soap mixed with water does the trick and doesn’t harm the plant or the gofers for that matter. Kimberly Childers, who writes for us, is an expert on ‘anything garden’ & is the person who gave me this sug- gestion. We also started a new section in the Upbeat Times called ‘Uptown Entertainment’ but switched it to ‘Upbeat’s Entertainment Guide’. It looks as though we will continue ev-

A man was driving a truck. His headlights weren’t on, and the moon wasn’t out. Ahead of him, a woman dressed in all black started crossing the road. For- tunately, the man braked so she could cross. How did he see her? It was the middle of the day! ~

A young man was planting some flower seeds on a sweltering day, sweating from the hot sun. His neighbor said, “You need to wait until the sun goes down, or plant in the morning when it is coolest.” The man said, “I can’t do that. It says on the package, ‘Plant in full sun!’ ”
