agree with a calculation I heard some years ago. Take your body weight and divide it by two. I weigh 135 pounds and half of that is 67.5. Divide that half by eight, which repre- sents an eight-ounce glass of water. 67.5 di- vided by 8 is 8.4. I need eight-and-a-half glasses of water throughout the day. And don’t cheat, round up! Do your own personal math. Are you getting anywhere near what you need?! It sounds like you’d have to drink water all day long, which means peeing all day and


drinking too much alcohol? “Alcohol is a di- uretic and causes our system to shed water. The more water we lose the more dehydrated we get and the more likely we are to experi- ence a hangover. The headache of a hangover is actually caused by the shrinkage of our brain dura (the membrane that encases our brain) due to dehydration,” says Stanford University, Office of Alcohol Policy and Edu- cation. This means that our brain is actually banging into the inside of our skull, instead of floating around like usual. I don’t know about you, but that kinda freaks me out! Sure, I was a total “head banger” back in the day, but I’m not cool with bruising my brain. Some of you are young and think it doesn’t matter now, but I assure you it all catches up. By the time you’re my age you’ll be wishing you’d done some things differently. This one is para- mount and an easy fix. If you drink alcohol, drink extra water before, during and after.
