bless this band and this musical family I am so proud to be a part of. -Scott Greene, Greenville, SC
The Turner Brothers with Scott Greene and his son Steven Greene in Athens, GA,
my story. When the plane crash happened I wondered if I would ever find another song- writer with that gift. One day at my job one of the ladies
handed me a cd and told me, “you have to lis- ten to this band I think you will like them a lot!” That cd was The Whippoorwill and I knew from the very first spin that I had found an artist with that gift again. A songwriter whose every song feels like he is singing my life story. I then searched the web for information
and stumbled onto the Facebook page. The page had stuff about Brothers and Sisters and at first I was skeptical, but they welcomed me like I was a long lost "brother" and the love they show for each other is unlike anything I have ever seen. They not only do for the band but they share with each other in the most unselfish way I have ever seen. It’s an honor to be counted among their ranks. I set out and bought everything musi-
cal I could find by Smoke, and my son and I made our first show in Athens Ga in 2013. That was over 50 shows ago and I am working as hard as I can to reach the 100 club. I had the pleasure of telling Charlie my take on his songwriting and how much his songs mean to so many of us, and he responded, not like a rock star, but like a friend who knew he was making a difference in the lives of others. “I first heard of Blackberry Smoke on the first Lynyrd Skynyrd cruise - Gimme Three Days. I fell in love with the song "Son of Bourbon." I made sure that I saw them each time they performed on that cruise. They were also on the all the other Lynyrd Skynyrd cruises - the Simple Man cruise - we were on five of the next seven. Again I saw them every time they performed. Charlie, Paul, Brit and I believe, Richard played in Rickey Medlocke's jam ses- sions on several of these cruises and did an incredible job. Charlie even sang at the re- newal of the vows for Dale and Gary Rossing- ton on the last Skynyrd Cruise we were able to enjoy. I have also had the pleasure of seeing them perform at the City of Woodstock and at Verizon Amphitheatre outside Atlanta, Ga where they are based. My favorite album is A Little Piece of
Dixie and my favorite song is "Up in Smoke." My only complaint is it is very hard to find their albums in the stores in our area. It seems many places will no longer sell CD's which is a shame.” -Julia LaRue
Julia LaRue and Brit Turner on the Simple Man Cruise. It was Hal- loween and we could dress up on the ship. I wore a letter sweater from my high school (Osborne Cardinal) in Marietta, Ga. Brit and Richard went to our rival high school in Smyrna, Ga (Campbell
Panther). I thought a picture of the two rival schools and two former students would be one for my scrapbook.
