“I'm a 48 yr old and because of divorce, mar- riage [2nd one]and children I had not been to a concert in several years. Well, at my current job I befriended a co-worker and he was al- ways singing lines of songs. I didn't pay much attention to him and would kinda rib him about his singing. As time passed he kept singing and started telling me all about the band he was singing. He would always tell me about the concerts that he attended which are an overwhelming amount. He would invite me occasionally and me being a 70’s and 80’s hard rock fan I wanted to go but wasn't sure this band was my type of music. So last week- end I gave in and went my my good friend to Asheville, NC and watched this band perform. I have to say they were electric live, they rocked the house! I got smoked! I am now a new fan of Blackberrry Smoke and plan to at- tend more of there concerts. Thanks to my

The first time I saw Backberry Smoke perform live was at Sky City night club in Augusta, Georgia in October 2012. It was a pick up gig for them on the Whippoorwill tour. I had had tickets to see Gov’t Mule perform in Macon at the Cox Capitol Theatre that same night. I had heard of Blackberry Smoke and had missed several opportunities to see them perform club dates in Augusta through the years. It hadn’t been long since Whippoorwill was released. I wanted to see them close to home, so I made arrangements to sell my Gov’t Mule tickets to a friend in Macon and set out for the Black- berry Smoke gig. I had become Facebook friends with bass player Richard Turner around that same time. I had received a friend request from him and thought that it was a local friend of mine named Richard Turner who was a drummer in a band I had played in years earlier. Turns out Richard had seen a post I had made in a Berry Oakley bass page and liked a replica of Berry’s Fender Jazz Bass, known as The Tractor, I had built. We became acquainted and would occasionally chat in messenger. Whenever I had a chance to see them live, Richard and I would hang and chat. I got to meet some of the other guys in the band, as well, but being a bass player, myself, I felt particularly drawn to Richard. Anyway, Richard ended up having some personal life issues going on, and he withdrew from social media. I haven't had an opportunity to visit with him in a while. Blackberry Smoke has be- come one of my favorite bands to see live since my all time favorite band, The Allman Broth- ers Band, retired, along with the passing of Butch Trucks and Gregg Allman. I have at- tached a picture from the October 2012 gig when I heard and met the band the first time.
