Ahead of our cruise over the Sea of the Hebrides, we land on Tiree to visit the Skerryvore Lighthouse Museum at Hynish. After an overnight sail to magical St Kilda, we arrive in the early morning to sail between the island of Boreray and Stac Lee. As the cleits and grazing Soay sheep come into view, we approach Village Bay on Hirta where we go ashore to wonder at what life must have been like in this remote wilderness.
A sail past the mysterious Flannan Isles brings us to Stornoway, where we uncover the ancient history of Lewis at the Callanish Stones and Carloway Broch and explore this northerly Gaelic heartland at Lews Castle Museum.
Spending a full day on Skye, we tour the bizarre rock formations of the Trotternish peninsula. Still haunted by its decadent Edwardian past, Kinloch Castle seems a world away from the beauty of the ancient Sunart Oakwoods, perfect for a tranquil stroll as we reflect on our adventures.
