STAFFA Fingal’s Cave

IONA Iona Abbey

There is no better time to take in some of the most glorious Highland and Island landscapes than the spring. As nature breathes new life into this unrivalled corner of the world, experience many of its unforgettable secrets.

Our voyage commences with a sail of Loch Linnhe to the iconic Glenfinnan Monument, a moving tribute to those who died fighting for the Jacobite cause. Onwards to Ballachulish to wonder at the majesty of Glencoe and learn of the area’s turbulent history.

Located in an unspoilt area of beauty, we explore Kingairloch Estate, before cruising to Ardmaddy Castle Gardens, formed on the site of the barracks dating to the 1745 rebellion.

The Gulf of Corryvreckan is famous for its strong tidal currents, and the whirlpool which ensues is the third largest in the world. Planted in the 1930's, the gardens of Colonsay House are regarded as some of the finest rhododendron gardens in Scotland, covering 20 acres with an exceptional variety of trees and shrubs.

Hynish on Tiree was built to facilitate the construction of the Skerryvore Lighthouse and now houses a fitting tribute to the Lighthouse Stevensons. On the walker’s paradise of Coll, we savour the sense of remoteness of this low-lying isle.

Having relished in the tranquillity of the beautifully restored Iona Abbey, we follow in the footsteps of Mendelssohn, sailing past the dramatic cathedral-like basalt columns that form Fingal’s Cave on Staffa.

Our penultimate port of call is the Isle of Ulva, home to Sheila’s Cottage and one of Telford’s parliamentary churches, ahead of a final stretch of legs around the colourful harbour town of Tobermory.
