Rounding Ardnamurchan, we plot a northerly course to Skye and walks around the wildly magnificent Loch Coruisk. Continuing through Kyle Rhea and the Inner Sound, we are bound for Gairloch to strike out for a full day walk or savour the solitude of a gentle stroll to the pretty waterfall at Flowerdale Glen and an exploration of the acclaimed Inverewe Garden.

A must for hikers, the nature reserve at Knockan Crag affords spectacular views, whilst the less energetic can marvel at the deep chasm of Corrieshalloch Gorge and the plunging Falls of Measach. On lush Tanera Mòr, climb Meall Mor for panoramic vistas or call at the post office that issues its own stamps.

Onwards to Stornoway to decide between a full day rambling on Lewis or a historical tour of the Callanish Standing Stones, Carloway Broch and the museum at Lews Castle.

We land on the enchanted Shiant Isles, spellbound by the sights and sounds of the vast seabird cliffs and on Skye, the MacLeod stronghold of Dunvegan Castle calls. It has survived many conflicts and offers exhilarating boats trips to view the resident seal colony.

After a relaxing sail of the Small Isles, we enjoy a final stretch of legs or indulge in some last-minute shopping at the colourful Georgian harbour town of Tobermory.
