Oban - Oban Celtic Panorama

Tuesday 11th to Tuesday 18th June 2019 7 nights including 2 Gala Dinners

The beauty and drama of the Celtic coasts of western Scotland and Northern Ireland have inspired numerous artists to capture the character of these landscapes and convey their every nuance to the viewer. We too can absorb these inspirational views and observe renowned private collections at Glenarm Castle and Dumfries House.

The Crinan Hotel is a renowned venue where contemporary artist, Frances Macdonald and her son Ross Ryan, exhibit. Cruising the Sound of Jura and the North Channel, we take in the spectacular panorama of the visible coastlines.

The Ulster Museum’s art collections include some of the finest Irish art, incorporating works by Jack Butler Yeats, William Conor, John Luke and Sir John Lavery. After a visit to the award-winning Titanic Museum we head to Glenarm Castle, home of Viscount and Viscountess Dunluce, to observe superb examples of Irish furniture and a private collection of family portraits.

Dumfries House is one of Britain’s most beautiful stately homes, with an outstanding collection of 18th century furniture and a large array of 17th century Dutch paintings, acquired from the renowned collection of the 3rd Earl of Bute.

Rounding the Mull of Kintyre, we pause a while on the whisky isle of Islay to sample the rich malt which has been produced at Laphroaig Distillery since 1815 and enjoy tranquil walks at Tayvallich on the shores of Loch Sween. The climax of our voyage is a champagne reception in the magnificent Great Hall of Duart Castle, hosted by clan chief, Sir Lachlan Maclean.
