Golden Pool Team Celebrate 50 Years

One of the UK’s premier pool building teams is celebrating its golden anniversary in the pool industry.

Lincolnshire-based, Asher Swimpool Centre was started in 1968 by John and Brenda Asher, who previously ran a commercial rose- growing business. “We built a liner pool in the back garden and I remember very clearly our children Claire and Andrew helping dig the pool out and barrowing the soil down to the orchard,” says John. “People would come to buy roses and say, I would like a pool like that. So I offered to build them one. MULTI AWARD-WINNING “In those days, if you had anything that held water and you had a wheelbarrow, you could be a pool builder,” laughs John. Over five decades, the company has built not only hundreds of pools but earned itself an unrivalled reputation for integrity, hard work and quality workmanship.

Over the 50 year period, the company has notched up 27 gold, silver and bronze awards in competitions run by the Swimming Pool and Allied Trade Association. Stalwart supporters of both SPATA and

ISPE, all employees are members of the Institute of Swimming Pool Engineers. John is a past president of both organisations and Claire chairs the Midland Region of SPATA, a position she has held for 20 years.

Following John and Brenda’s retirement 18 years ago, they handed the business to the safe hands of their son and daughter, Andrew and Claire who, at that time, were joined by John Epton as Contracts Manager. The strong team of three are still running the business with the support of eight very talented employees, three of which have served over 25 years each; building and servicing pools, spas, saunas and steam rooms.

Having built well over 600 pools both indoor, outdoor, residential and commercial, the company covers a geographic customer radius of 60 miles, and more, if a customer moves house or requires their expertise. John is also a staunch member of the Rotary Club. He and Brenda have been promoting a Trade Aid scheme, both in the pool industry and outside, to help people in third world economies become self-sufficient.
