hroughout the month of January, CJMEA held it’s annual high school re-

held our Intermediate Band, Choir, Orchestra, and Percussion Ensemble auditions at Community Middle School in Plainsboro, NJ. I’d like to thank our division chairs, Sandy Ol- son, Alex Costantino, Yale Snyder, Peggy Gonsky, and Grace Lee, as well as our choir Registration Managers, Mary Schmidt and Andy Veiss, for all of their hard work leading up to and on the day of auditions. I con- tinue to be amazed by all that goes on behind the scenes in order to ensure a smooth day for our directors and stu- dents. The CJMEA Board is grateful to everyone who assisted in any way during this event, especially the 100+ teachers who give up their day to at- tend and serve as judges at auditions. Special thanks goes to Brian Wood- ford and Scott Collins at Community Middle School for hosting our audi- tions.

The first intermediate concert will be held on Sunday, March 3rd and will feature our orchestras. The full calendar of events and locations is available on our website, www.cjmea. org.

In an effort to assist with the

professional development of music teachers in Region II, CJMEA will once again offer grants to teachers/ music programs: • Grant awards will typically not exceed $750.

• Grant awards may be used to partially fund a project in conjunction with your school if we are not able to fully fund your proposed professional development.

• All checks will be written to a school account. We are unable to

write checks directly

teachers, presenters, companies, music booster clubs, or other individuals/companies.

• Grants cannot be requested for the purchase of equipment or supplies unless it directly relates to the PD session being proposed. The grant proposal form is avail- able on our website. We will continue to approve grant requests until the funds allocated for this school year have been spent. It is a wonderful accomplish- ment to successfully audition into a Region Honors Group. It’s especially impressive when students are able to do this four years in a row! This will be the 3rd year that we will offer three $1000 scholarships to graduat- ing seniors who have been members of a region ensemble all four years of high school. The scholarship applica- tion is available on our website. Please encourage your seniors to apply for these scholarships. The application deadline is March 15, 2018. It was great to see so many col-

leagues, friends, and CJMEA mem- bers at the NJMEA conference last month. We’re fortunate to have this excellent professional development and networking opportunity each year in New Jersey. I always feel reju- venated and ready to take on the rest of a school year after attending a great conference. This year was no excep- tion! Enjoy the rest of your school years. Summer will be here again be- fore we know it! Also always, please do not hesi- tate to contact me or any other mem- ber of the CJMEA Board with ques- tions, comments, or concerns. The contact information for every Board member is available on the website.
