It has been a tremendous year in Jazz Education in New Jersey! Starting off with the great performances of our
All-State Jazz Ensemble and Honors Jazz Choir. Directors, Walt Weiskkopf and Timothy Brent, offered wonder- ful musical direction to the students of these ensembles. Once again, the New Jersey Center for the Performing Arts provided a guest soloist to perform with the ASJE. This year, famed trumpet performer Wallace Roney shared the stage with our NJ Jazz students. Thank you to managers Peter Certo, Hamilton High School West (ASJE) and Steve Bishop, Burlington Township High School and Randy White, Hopewell Valley Central High School (NJHJC) for their efforts in the All-State Concert Series. March offers our busiest time of year. We have 46 bands registered to participate in our State Jazz Band Festival,
and we will be holding Region Jazz auditions and performances. In addition, April has our 2nd Annual Jazz Choir Festival, the finals of our State Jazz Band Festival and then All-State Jazz Ensemble auditions in May, along with our State Jazz Band Gala Concert. Please check out our website,
www.njaje.org, for all of your New Jersey Jazz events and resources. We are here to
you. And while you’re visiting our site, ponder joining our organization. For a nominal membership fee, you are able to attend our annual Jazz Conference in November, receive a subscription to Downbeat Magazine, and entrance to all of our sponsored events.

As March approaches, we are once again preparing for the All-State Orchestra auditions. They will be held on
Saturday, March 17th at JP Stevens High School in Edison. Both the High School (ASO) and Intermediate (ASIO) auditions will be taking place at this time. Unfortunately, we will not be continuing the Honors Chamber Orchestra due to lack of interest. If the high school audition numbers go back up, the Procedures Committee will consider bring- ing it back.
