THE NEW JERSEY MUSIC EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION a federated state association of NATIONAL ASSOCIATION for MUSIC EDUCATION News From Our Division Chairs We are also preparing for our Middle School/Junior High School Festival on March 7th. Thank you to Kim Wil-
liams and Joe Simon for hosting at Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School. Thanks also to Michael Berry for adjudicat- ing again this year. It would be great to see even more schools participate next year, so please let me know if you are interested! At the end of April, the ASIO and HCO will begin rehearsing. As I am writing this, we are finalizing conductors and programs for ASIO ASO. Look for more information in the May issue of TEMPO!

Hello, Fellow Retired Music Educators! Now that the excellent (as usual) conference is behind us and Spring is not far away, maybe it’s time to reflect a bit
on what we are doing with the rest the year – maybe even the rest of our lives! Some of us are still active performing, conducting, teaching privately or evaluating student teachers; some of us have our hobbies or our churches. The main thing, I think, is that we seriously make ourselves active on a regular basis. It’s so easy to sleep in, watch the tube or read another book. There’s nothing wrong with those things because it’s some of the things we didn’t have time to do when we were working so hard with our careers. However, I am asking all of us to think about how we could use our talents to make a difference in our society. It’s so different than when we began our careers. Consider going to a nurs- ing home or assisted living facility and leading a sing-a-long; volunteer to bring some music to an after school program (especially with arts programs being pushed to the background or eliminated); volunteer with our mentoring program; anything that keeps your talents, skills and minds sharp. As music educators, we have so much to offer and so many areas of our society could use a bit of sunshine. One last thing, (as we talked about at the meeting), please think about where you would like to travel as a group;
what you would like to see, hear and experience; and who among your family and friends might like to join us. All we need is 20 committed participants to put together a travel experience that WE wish to have. Have a safe and healthy rest of the winter and hope to see you at Paul Oster’s for the May 9th meeting.
