Florida Federation Makes An Impact! The Florida Federation of Fairs through the leadership of the


Legislative Committee and Committee Chairman Terry Atchley made its second trip to Tallahassee to meet with state senators

and representatives about the importance of the Fair industry to our state and to our communities. The concept began 2 years ago when Dan West initiated a


meeting with Florida Farm Bureau in an effort to strengthen our ties with other agricultural groups in Florida. During the meet- ing, we confirmed that Farm Bureau and Fairs have many com- mon ties but that each should be more active in the other’s activities. As a result, the Florida Federation of Fairs encour- aged all Fairs in Florida to join their local Farm Bureau and Farm Bureau asked our Florida Fairs to join them on their legis- late trip to Tallahassee. On January 29th and 30th, 14 Florida Federation members

Among the elected officials the group met with or did a “stop by” at their office were: Senator Denise Grimsley; Senator Kathleen Passidomo; Representative Jake Raburn; Representative Byron Donalds; Senator Victor Torres; Senator Greg Steube; Senator Dennis Baxley; Senator Bill Gal- vano; Senator Dorothy Hukill, Senator Dana Young; Senator Tom Lee; Representative Joe Gruters; Representative Jim Boyd; Representative Ray Rodriquez; Representative Julio Gonzalez; Senator Rob Bradley, Senator Lauren Book, Senator Aaron Bean; Representative Matt Caldwell; Representative W. Travis Cummings, Representative Jay Fant; Representative Lawrence McClure; Representative Paul Renner; Representative Charlie Stone; along with Commissioner Adam Putnam and Grace Lovett with the FDACS. The Federation group included: Dawn Rowe, Federation President from the Osceola County Fair; Terry Atchley, Legislative Committee Chair from the Hardee County Fair; Dan West from the Manatee County Fair, , Happy Norris from the Lake County Fair, Paulette Kirkland, Keith Wingate, and Peggy Johnson from the Northeast FL Fair; Rhonda Ward and Pat Cookson, from the Collier County Fair; Fran Crone from the Southwest FL and Lee County Fair; Ronnie Hull from the Volusia County Fair; Rory Martin from the Sarasota County Fair; Tom Umiker from the Hillsborough County Fair; and Lisa Hin- ton, Federation Executive Director.
