INNOVATION IN supported by
PHARMACY PRACTICE DEANS PHARMACY, WISHAW
The Deans team had been considering how automation could improve the pharmacy and quickly realised that a full refi t of the pharmacy was needed if the team was to deliver the radical change that it required. The full refi t, which included the installation of a Willach Consis B Robot, means that the new patient-facing, multipurpose stations are utilised for a forward- dispensing model, meaning that patients have their prescriptions dispensed as soon as they walk into the pharmacy.
OMNICARE PHARMACY, COALHILL, EDINBURGH
Omnicare has set up a hub and spoke model using SynMed® technology, which allows them to utilise automation in preparing the weekly blister packs for Omnicare’s nine sites. Through interface between the Synmed machine and the PMR Analyst, the pharmacy is now able to send all information from spoke to hub by the click of a button. The pharmacy is currently producing 300 trays a day in a nine-hour shift, with two members of staff running it: a very effi cient hub and spoke model.
RIGHT MEDICINE PHARMACY, THROSK, STIRLING
Right Medicine Pharmacy was Scotland’s fi rst supplier of the Biodose pod system, a unique monitored dosage system supplied to nursing homes. It is now the fi rst site in the UK to launch a trial of the new Biodose Connect solution, an innovative self-medication management solution for people living independently in the community. The Class 1 medical device utilises the Biodose system and prompts and reminds people when to take their medication from one of the pre-dispensed pods.
LLOYDSPHARMACY, KNIGHTSWOOD, GLASGOW
LloydsPharmacy Knightswood was selected as an early adopter site for the company’s offsite Prescription Assembly Solution (PAS). The objective of the early adopter pharmacies was to fully test the system and also to give feedback to the project team ahead of the solution rolling out to pharmacies across the business. Pharmacist Niral Nathwani and his team have been pivotal in the success of the early adopter phase by consistently giving valuable feedback, which has infl uenced everything from font size on labels to positioning of bag labels.
