help other families because we knew what they were going through.

‘We were a mum and a dad with an idea, but there were so many things we needed to learn. People really responded to our story, and to be here today having raised around £1 million is unbelievable.’

Nigel and Julie Libby, founders of Ellie’s Haven, celebrate their charity’s 10th anniversary

The charity Ellie’s Haven has celebrated its 10th anniversary with an evening ball for around 140 guests at the Tencreek Holiday Park.

Over that decade, founders Nigel and Julie Libby, together with the many local people who have taken their cause to heart, have raised around £1 million.

Libbys offer respite holidays for children with long term and life- limiting illnesses or disabilities.

He continued: ‘Hundreds of supporters – individuals, community groups, schools, businesses and charitable trusts – have helped us turn that dream into a reality.

‘Words cannot express our heart-felt gratitude for everything that people have done to help us.’

The adaptations and special facilities at the Ellie’s Haven property mean that the holidays are a truly stress-free break for the families who stay there.

Continuing support from local people enables the charity to provide the

holidays for just a nominal booking fee; donations, fund- raising by supporters and profits from the Ellie’s Haven shop in West Looe cover running costs of about £50,000 a year.

Testimonials from the families who stay pay tribute to the value of the charity’s work.

Now, says Nigel, he and Julie aim to make the holidays the very best they can be, from the booking systems to the activities offered at the house.
