Rowers cover huge distance – on dry land to raise money for gig!
Looe Rowing Club members rowed a huge distance – without leaving dry land.
They used rowing machines to travel hundreds of thousands of metres at the Morrisons superstore in Liskeard.
The machines started whirring at 10am and after less than four hours members had reached their target of 100,000 metres. The team carried on rowing and fundraising for a new gig and one member, Keith Holder, even racked up a half- marathon towards the total.
Junior members and veterans all took their turn on the machines and offered bag-packing services for customers.
By 7pm, 215,186 metres had been rowed – enough to have reached the island of Jersey.
A spokesman said: ‘The club are very grateful to Morrisons for hosting the club and we are extremely grateful to their generous customers who helped raise £833.89. Barclays kindly offered to match our event pound for pound, bringing the total to over £1,660 for the new gig.’
