Unusual places found to look at a Book
Pupils take up extreme reading
Every teacher knows that reading can take youngsters to wonderful new worlds and stretch the imagination.
But when staff at Looe Primary Academy asked their pupils to do some ‘extreme reading’ over the half-term holiday, little did they know how creative some of their children would be.
In their quest to find the most crazy places to read, youngsters climbed to the top of high ropes courses, jumped off rocks into the sea, and took their books with them to the gym and the swimming pool.
Teachers joined in with enthusiasm with the challenge, taking photos of themselves whizzing down slides, sitting in helicopters and even high up in the bucket of a telehandler.
More meditative youngsters climbed into the fridge for some ‘chilled out’ reading or combined books with yoga.
The whole school agreed that
Dominic Juleff was truly the most extreme reader as he sat on the Ranney’s navigation buoy near Looe Island, and as the winner of the competition, he will receive a £10 book token.
Teacher Bethany Hearnden was behind the madcap half term challenge. She said: ‘It has been a lovely way to promote a creative approach to reading in our school.’
