A weekend of festive fun in Looe saw sparkling lights, sprinting Santas and the naming of a new ‘sea monster’.

Events began with a lantern parade on Friday and more people than ever joined in this year with willow lanterns.

Santa arrived by train on Saturday and took a sleigh ride around town thanks to the busy elves of the Looe Lions Club.

An illuminated sea dragon, created by harbour commission volunteers, was the focus on the river, and was named Meurin by Vicky Thompson, of West Looe.

On Sunday, Looe Pioneers and Looe Lions injected new energy into the Santa fun run – and mayor Armand Toms was among the Santas in a beard and costume.

‘A packed startline in West Looe was aglow with runners of all ages and abilities, as well as elves, reindeer and numerous Santas,’ said Brian Maywood, of the Pioneers.

Results were as follows: boys – Ben Gummow, Jamie Bell, Jack Porter; girls – Bethen Gummow, Ruby Porter, Joss Staff; and teams – Sheila’s School of Dancing, Cross Fit, Looe Pioneers.
