GVA drives forward with AA office deal
Joining forces: the BESAP committee
Group promotes a ‘city of change’
A group of extended stay accommodation providers have joined forces to form a partnership designed to boost the region’s appeal to relocating national corporates and long-stay visitors. The Birmingham Extended Stay Apartment Partnership (BESAP) consists of nine of the city’s top long-stay providers and has been created to showcase the vast array of alternative accommodation options that it has to offer. Through marketing activity and
familiarisation (fam) trips, the partnership’s committee aims to promote Birmingham as a ‘city of change’, encouraging projects that will see individuals located in the city for extended periods of time. “W8e believe that we’re the first
region in the country to set up a partnership and take it to this level,” said Krishna Pastakia, sales manager at Staybridge Suites. Daniel Skermer, group sales manager at Park Regis and Nitenite, said: “There has been a surge of bookings coming into the city since the start of the year and there are some exciting projects going on; we’ve got HS2 coming to Birmingham, the city’s pitch for the Commonwealth Games, and HSBC’s relocation growing nearer.” In serviced apartments VAT
drops from 20 per cent to 4 per cent on the 29th night of a continuous stay. This provides organisations with a significant cost saving over the hotel alternative for extended stay.
The Midlands office of property adviser GVA has secured a 10-year lease extension for the AA at its Oldbury offices. A multi-disciplinary team led by the lease consultancy and
corporate solutions departments negotiated a new lease at Swallowfield One in Oldbury, enabling the AA to expand into the full 111,000 sq ft building. Chris Norcup, director with GVA’s lease consultancy team, said:
“Centrica’s departure presented the AA with an opportunity to review its operation and consider its long-term plans. The decision to remain in the building, coupled with the commitment to expand into the full 110,000 sq ft, provides some fantastic opportunities for the business to develop its operations while providing local employment opportunities.” Jon Ellis, head of property and facilities at the AA, said: “We’ve
been working with GVA for some time and we’re exceedingly pleased with the negotiations that they’ve completed for us at Oldbury.”
