Historic venue for networking event

Chamber members are being invited to a networking event at what is being billed as ‘Birmingham’s newest city centre venue’. However, anyone expecting modern glitz and glam will in fact find a rare

remnant of Birmingham’s Victoriana, as the building in question is the Water Hall. Part of Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, Water Hall has been used to

housed some of the city’s most exciting modern art shows in recent years. It was originally built as an extension to the Council House and initially used as offices by Birmingham Gas Corporation.

‘The venue has been given a modern refurbishment and is being viewed as an ideal place for events’

In 1912, it became a ground floor banking hall for Birmingham

Corporation’s public water supply, with Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery housed on the floor above. The Water Hall’s impressive Victorian interior features a number of fluted

iron Corinthian columns and riveted iron beams, and the original windows still remain. The venue has been given a modern refurbishment and is being viewed as an ideal place for events such as weddings and drinks receptions. The Water Hall is available to private hire, and can accommodate 200

people for seated events and up to 280 for standing drinks receptions. The preview event for Chamber members takes place on 8 November.

businesses and large scale organisations across the UK, she has a passion for digital and international marketing. She said: “I’m really looking forward to delivering the seminar at the

forthcoming Chamber Expo. It is important for any business to make sure they have a clear digital marketing strategy, especially when it comes to internationalising their web presence. “Your website and social media are your shop front to the world and it

needs to reflect the business as well as promoting your services or products. “There are many different routes to internationalising your online

footprint and that is why the Department for International Trade are here to help West Midlands businesses to decide which route is best for them.” Sarah will be one of three speakers at the Expo, with the other two to

be announced shortly. Seminars are open to Chamber members only. Birmingham City University and Aston Villa are headline sponsors of the

Expo.

Sutton Coldfield MP Andrew Mitchell is guest speaker at a breakfast event at the town’s Harvest Fields Centre on 23 November. Mr Mitchell, a former member of the Royal Tank Regiment, has been

Sutton’s MP for 16 years and previously represented Gedling, during which time he held office as a Government Whip and was Minister for Social Security. During his time as Sutton MP, Mr Mitchell has gone on to hold other

posts, both in opposition and in Government, including: Shadow Minister for Economic Affairs, Shadow Minister for Police and Shadow Secretary of State for International Development. He then served as the Secretary of State for International Development

from May 2010 - September 2012, and Government Chief Whip from September – October 2012. The Chamber event takes place at Harvest Fields Centre, Harvest Fields Way, Sutton and is £15 for members, and £30 for non-members.
