Learning the secrets to a mindful way of life

The next Burton Chamber ‘Women in Business’ event will feature a speaker who will be hoping that guests take a ‘Leafe’ out of her book and use ‘mindfulness’ in their daily lives. Mindfulness is a concept originating in Buddhism,

and in the West it is used to treat various psychological conditions, such as depression.

‘Women can use mindfulness to gain more clarity’

All will be explained on 12 October at the

‘Women in Business’ event at Mercure Newton Park hotel, where the speaker will be Debbie Leafe of MindFit Coaching. Debbie is an ‘empowerment’ coach and will

explain to guests what mindfulness is and how it can help them to manage the challenges of being a woman in the 21st century, both at work and at home. She said: “I am really looking forward to speaking to the ladies in October to explain what mindfulness is, and to share with them some tools and techniques to help them deal more skilfully with their thoughts and emotions and reduce their stress, anxiety and even illness.

Trio of promotions

at Else Solicitors Burton law firm Else Solicitors has made a number of promotions among its staff. They are Felicity Fisher, who has become

head of commercial property, Laura Charles, new head of debt recovery, and Kim Hylton, who has been promoted to marketing executive. In her new role, Felicity leads a team of

four commercial property specialists. She previously worked for Bovis Homes and law firm Eversheds, and has experience of being on both sides of the property fence. She said “This opportunity means I can

ensure the team works with clients to ensure the advice we give really counts and the deal we negotiate has a positive impact for our clients.” Else managing partner Chris Else said:

“Felicity, Laura and Kim have earned these promotions. We are a local, friendly law firm, and, where possible, we will always look to further the careers of existing staff. “The management team was pleased to be

able to promote internally and recognise their hard work and commitment towards helping us expand our presence whilst also providing an excellent service to our clients.”

“Research estimates that we have approximately

60,000 thoughts a day with 90 per cent of them being the same as the day before, this can be overwhelming. “Over the years I have helped people to focus

their mind and access a sense of calm and acceptance. With many scientific studies now showing how these traditional therapeutic methods can help people gain emotional awareness and to be fully engaged in how they respond to life’s challenges. “I believe women can use mindfulness to gain

more clarity, improve relationships, achieve better results for their business, and make better decisions around their work life balance.” Women in Business partner, Claire

Twells, Partner at Smith Partnership Solicitors said: “Debbie Leafe is a truly inspirational coach. I know she will give the ladies the insight for making positive changes to their lives for improved wellbeing. We will also continue to raise money for a fabulous local charity Every Cloud, who buy gifts for people under-going breast cancer treatment.”

Restaurant gets its claws into annual Lobster Festival

Native lobsters and Cromer crabs were both on the menu at Burton's Winery restaurant recently, during the Burton restaurant’s fourth annual Lobster Festival. The annual celebration of gourmet seafood seasonal dishes was carried out under the watchful eye of consultant master chef Jeff Thomas. Dishes ranged from home-made Lobster

Bisque and classic Lobster Thermidor, credited originally to Parisian Antonin Careme, probably the world’s first ever ‘celebrity chef’. His dishes wowed 19th Century European and

Russian royalty including dazzling the Prince Regent at Brighton Pavilion. Lee Evans, restaurant manager, said: “Our

Winery Lobster Festival featuring fresh native seafood in season is a popular treat each Summer for diners, whether at lunchtime or evening, made special by perfect pairing of chilled white wine from our extensive cellars and service from our personable staff.”

Right: What a catch: Chef Ryan Crutchley and head waitress Charlotte Gadsby show some of the fare available at the annual Lobster Festival
