Healdsburg, CA. ~ Al- most all of my and my wife’s family lives back East. My daughters have flown across the country too many times to even count. They are great air trav- elers.

One year we decided to drive across country. We wanted the girls to actually see how big this country is. When you fly over, you can look out the windows and sometimes see great spans of space but it is difficult to really know size from the air. But driv- ing, wow, one winter while driving the southern route through Texas my oldest daughter asked, “Does this state ever end?”

My wife loves planning. And with trips she taught me

a long time ago that antici- pation of the trip is the best part. She is right. It’s always fun planning and thinking of the things you would like to do. We read a lot about our upcoming trips, study maps, do itineraries. Once the trip begins, it is always an ad- venture and it of- ten becomes like every other day

in one’s life, a challenge. An- ticipation is always fun, no problems there, but the actual trip is more problematic, an adventure one has to be pre- pared to “roll with the flow.” We planned to drive to Chi-

cago and fly back. We had re- served a Volvo station wagon to rent. Everything was set. When we went to pick up the car the rental place said they

didn’t have the car we re- quested. To try an appease us they offered us an upgrade to a Lincoln Continental. It was a huge boat of a car. It was all black. I said to my wife, “Geez, we’re going to look like we work for the FBI.” We had to build a platform out of the cooler to make a seat for my youngest or she would have never been able to see out the back window. But the funniest part was that we had planned to camp most of the trip. We all felt a little weird pulling into camp- grounds in this huge black luxury sedan. At one site this older cou- ple in the next campsite kept watching us. Finally, the man came over and did some idle chit-chat

before he asked,

“That’s a bit of an unusual car to see in a campground.”

Out of nowhere, my young-

est daughter said, “We work for the FBI.” The man hur- ried away.

find life to be challenging and overwhelming and bring them at least a momentary glimpse of happiness. It is the study of good news and the effects and how it affects society and of all its citizens in a positive way” Does time fly? For me the an-

swer is yes...un·e·quiv·o·cal·ly! Do I watch the time? Not as much as I used too! I’m so busy now, time doesn’t really matter. I know I will get the important things done...like producing this paper and spending qual- ity moments with my family & friends...every day! Like the seasons, they change

and so does my perception of time. As I grow older I have en- joyed the new interpretations of time and what it means to us all!

A government employee sat in his office, and out of boredom, decided to see what was inside his old filing cabinet. He poked through the contents and came across an old brass lamp. “This will look good on my mantel,” he said, and took it home with him.

While polishing the lamp, a genie appeared and, as usual, granted him three wishes.

“I would like an ice-cold Coke right now.” He gets his Coke and drinks it. Now that he can think more clearly, he states his second wish. “I wish to be on an island with beautiful women, who find me irresistible.”

Suddenly, he’s on an island with gorgeous women eyeing him with big smiles. He tells the genie his third and last wish. “I wish I’d never have to work again.” Instantly, he was back in his government office.
