While visiting Crater Lake, on the northern rim we discovered Avery McCristian, a forest restoration specialist clearing dead trees from the trails from recent forest fires that had destroyed thousand of acres. The temperature was 102 degrees mid July. Since chain saws weigh so much, and they have to carry them for miles while clearing trails, they use a more traditional meth- od of cutting the trees with a 6 foot saw. It takes two people to use the saw. We were on our way to where the Rogue River begins as a spring. It flows like a river! ~ Paul Andrew Doyle
